Breast implants are composed of a silicone shell with a filler: saline implants contain a saltwater solution, silicone implants contain silicone gel. Silicone gel-filled breast implants were licensed by Health Canada in 2006, and have been used extensively throughout the world and are often preferred over saline-filled implants for a number of reasons:
The NATRELLE® collection has a TruForm® cohesive silicone gel-filler, or an implant that acts more like a soft solid than a liquid. The proven long-term form stability provides enduring control over the breast shape.
The NATRELLE® collection offers three options of TruForm® silicone gel-filled implants:
Textured — A textured surface adheres to your tissue and keeps the position of the implants stable
Smooth — The surface of the implant is smooth and doesn’t adhere to tissue. It is thought to simulate natural breast movement well
NATRELLE® implants are also offered with a unique texturing called BIOCELL®, designed to maintain the implant in place for a “one-breast feel”, where the implant and breast feel unified. BIOCELL® texture promotes tissue adherence, which may facilitate stable position and help reduce rotation.
All Allergan gel-filled breast implants have a patented INTRASHIEL™ barrier technology. This barrier in the shell reduces shell permeability and minimizes gel diffusion or gel bleed.
